About the Neighbourhood
Deer Park, located in mid-town, is one of Toronto oldest neighbourhoods. By the 1850s the area included a handful of country villas, a general store, a school, a cemetery, a racetrack, and a hotel that was located at the intersection of Yonge and St. Clair. Patrons at the Deer Park Hotel used to delight in feeding the deer that roamed on the hotel grounds, hence the neighbourhood’s name.
In 1891, elite boys’ school Upper Canada College moved from its urban location to the then-still-rural Deer Park area, establishing a large campus that remains at the same location today,
Deer Park’s quiet residential streets spill out onto either Yonge Street or St. Clair Avenue, right into the heart of one of Toronto’s liveliest shopping, entertainment, and business districts. Deer Park’s commercial centre provides a good balance for this neighbourhood which is surrounded by lush green parkland, majestic trees, and the Vale of Avoca Ravine.
Top public and private schools are all minutes away and include Bishop Strachan School, Upper Canada College, De La Salle College, the York School, and Deer Park Junior and Senior Public School. Easy access to financial core is via Yonge Street or Avenue Road. The St. Clair Subway station is a five-minute walk away.
